LAMS REVIEW OF 2010

Here we are in 2011, and time for me once again to write a review of the year just gone – how time flies when you are enjoying yourself!    That certainly is the feedback I get from members and volunteers, which is really encouraging!

Whilst all our usual activities have continued during the year – Extend exercise, physiotherapy, massage, beauty treatments, art and craft, quizzes and (of course) Scrabble – we have been able to introduce some new ‘attractions’ and the day just does not seem long enough to fit everything in! We  now have a Wii for bowling and other games as well as new laptop computers – our most grateful thanks to those people who have made such generous donations to us.  We were then fortunate to be awarded a grant by the Norfolk Community Foundation, which has enabled us to employ a computer tutor; purchase suitable hardware and software for the laptops; provide extra Extend sessions and the services of a Potter for clay work.

The North Norfolk Branch has also been donated an ‘ambulance’ by the Friends of Kelling Hospital, which means that we now have our own transport as well as using the services of other providers.

Other activities have included our summer barbecue (with entertainment by the Squeegees) held on the wettest Monday of July.  Indeed, the weather was unkind to us last year as we had to cancel our Christmas party (again) due to ice and snow.  Perhaps this year we’ll celebrate Christmas in October! We have also had tickets donated to us for Norwich City matches and several of our members have enjoyed these outings.

Of course, none of this would be possible without the support of our wonderful group of volunteers, both ‘in- house’ and working on the transport, and also our super Crossroads Carers.  I would also like to thank my fellow LAMS Steering Committee members who work so hard behind the scenes and, of course, the LAMS members themselves for making Mondays so special!

We now have a LAMS Facebook Group where you can chat with us and where we post what has been going on at LAMS each week.  We welcome new members online!

So, if you have MS and live in North Norfolk - please get in touch with us - we would love to meet you!  Contact Jeannette on 01263 579453
